The Shiel Family
Physiotherapy story
At Shiel Family
Physiotherapy quality of service and professionalism are paramount. We
believe in taking time to get to know our clients. Extended treatment
times allow us to provide effective treatment in a relaxed atmosphere.
Our team
Happy customers mean that
people recommend us to their friends and family and they just keep coming
back! Our business has grown quicker than we ever imagined it would. We
initially started with one person and our team has now grown to include
three established physiotherapists and our cheerful office administrator.
CRAIG SHIEL, BSc (hons) in Physiotherapy
Craig graduated from Keele University, Staffordshire, UK, in 1997,
with a BSc honours in Physiotherapy, having previously served as a
Physical Training Instructor in the Royal Air Force for 23 years.
On graduation from Keele
University, Craig went to work as Physiotherapist for Nottingham
Forest Football Club. In 1998, Craig left the UK to work in Wisconsin,
USA. Craig worked treating patients with an array of musculo-skeletal
related conditions.
After 3 years he left
for Albany, Western Australia, and in 2003 Emily and Craig started
their own practice ‘Shiel Family Physiotherapy’. Craig has completed
all levels in Clinical Pilates. His private practice is wide ranging,
having treated office workers through to professional footballers.
Craig's special areas of
interest are neck, back and shoulder rehab. He enjoys keeping fit by
doing Clinical Pilates, running and playing badminton.
EMILY SHIEL PT, BSc (hons) in Physiotherapy
Emily graduated from Keele University in Staffordshire, UK, in 1997.
She has worked in England and in Milwaukee, WI, USA for 3 years and has been working in Australia for the past 5 years.
Emily arrived in Albany
WA in 2000 and worked at Albany Regional Hospital until 2003. During
this time Emily worked in the Child Development Team and focussed on
assessment and treatment of children with disabilities.
In June 2003 Emily &
Craig started their own private practice in Albany where there is a
variety of work and the opportunity to work extensively with Clinical
Pilates concepts. At present Emily is enjoying being able to provide
ante-natal and postnatal care for women and working with children. Her
work also includes visiting local schools where children may require
physiotherapy.
JENNY HOOD, BSc in Physiotherapy
Jenny graduated from
Curtin University Western Australia in 1991. On graduation Jenny
worked at Armadale Health Service before starting a career in
Community Health and Outpatients.
Over the next ten years
Jenny worked for four different Perth Metropolitan Community Health
Centres. Areas of interest that developed over these years were
Orthopaedic Outpatients, Exercise Groups, Diabetes Education, Women’s
Health and Falls Prevention. As well as becoming a mum of the two
dynamic boys Thomas and William.
In 2002 The Hoods
decided to leave the big smoke and have a sea change to beautiful
Albany.
Once in Albany Jenny
continued her career in Community Health until July 2005 where she
made the wonderful leap into Emily & Craig’s private practice ‘Shiel
Family Physiotherapy’, where she continues her fascinating learning
curve into the world of Clinical Pilates.
KATHY HOLAHAN
Kathy made the move to Albany three years ago from Perth and is now
settled here with her partner.
Kathy has been at Shiel
Family Physio for two years. Her main role in the business is
looking after the daily administration/accounts that the job entails.
The business has grown rapidly over the last year but Kathy always
finds time to liaise with clients. Her friendly, outgoing character
enables her to deal with all aspects of the job.
Since working at Shiel
Family Physio, Kathy has witnessed the benefits that Clinical Pilates
has made to most clients. This has encouraged Kathy to start a
Clinical Pilates programme where she has progressed from Level 1
exercises to Level 4, which she finds both challenging and rewarding.
Kathy’s other interests are going to the gym, the beach, playing golf
and socializing with her friends.
Commitment to learning
We believe that you never
stop learning. Our commitment to our customers and to our profession
drives our dream that Shiel Family Physiotherapy will become a centre of
excellence and of teaching for staff and physiotherapy students within our
region.
